cudder anthem

Kid Cudi is one of my favorite artists. His music is chill and the over all beats make you happy but the undertone of the music is much deeper. The cover art for the man on the moon album is beautiful and I love the mixtures of colours, I'm thinking about doing my own version of this album art. He is coming to Vancouver on June 16th 2011 tickets are avalible at ticketmaster.

Polaroid Practice

My friend has one of the new instant film cameras and I don't want to waste any of the film. Honestly it is so expensive and unlike artists who used polaroids (when they were polaroids), they were so disposable because they were inexpensive. I've decided to practice a couple collages with my Ipod and the app Hipstamatic. Here is the first simple one I did of a couch.

Polaroid Research

My friend has one of the new instant film cameras and is letting me use it! I researched a couple artists and the few that really stood out to me was David Hockney and Matthew Kern. The only thing that I think would be very different if I tried to do a collage would be how disposable the polaroids were to these artists, instant film is so exspensive now I dont think I could make a collage with the same sort of easy feeling because I would be hesitating to make every shot perfect.

Nan and Reuben inspired

Giovanna Theodora

A couple of weeks ago I followed through on my Nan Goldin and Rueben Cox project but I didn't end up going to the cabin so a Down With Webster concert would have to do. I used the disposable cameras and I loved the effect it had, definintly going to use them again! Overall I think the project was succesful and I'm still fascinated about Nan Goldin.

More into Nan Goldin and Reuben Cox

I thought these pictures helped illustrate more of the similarites between Goldin and Cox with the raw exposed feeling in their photos. The fact that Nan Goldin takes pictures of people who are close and personal to her in a way to document their lives makes the photos mean so much more then just a snap shot; each photo has a story. Reuben Cox photography also has an intimate feeling to his work which I really appriciate but is a little less gritty then Nan Goldin (which I also sometimes appreciate). I really liked this quote I found on Views Magazine to describe his work, "His images are less about documenting an event, but rather bring the viewer up close and personal with the uniqueness of the event and the quality of that experience.".

"[My work] is about keeping a record of the lives I lost, so they cannot be completely obliterated from memory. My work is mostly about memory." -Nan Goldin

Crop Tops

American Apparel crop tops

cute sporty crop top
one way to wear it

I'm absolutely in love with the crop top fashion movement. They have a nice flowing feel to them and you can wear them in either winter or summer. An easy way to get into crop tops is getting them at american apparel. If you aren't comfortable showing a bit of skin you can wear a nice tank top underneath the crop top.

The Hills are Alive

A Weekend Trip
In the next month I will be heading to my friends cabin for the long weekend and I really want to do a Nan Goldin project mixed with a Reuben Cox approach. This will probably be all in black and white film and then i will also bring a disposible camera and my digital for some added fun.

Blind Spot is a great magazine and website that displays great photographers and artists, that is where i found Reuben Cox. Definatly Recommended.

Examples of my inspiration for this project:

C.Z. and Max on the Beach, Truro, Massachusetts
Nan Goldin

Gina at Bruce's Dinner Party, New York

The Next Three

1. Naomi Redmond

My friend is an aspiring singer with great vocals and I want to do a photoshoot for her inorder to get some more of her music out there and maybe start to make an album.  I want to get the concept right; rock but light and fun too.

this is her doing a cover:

2. Signs Shoot

I really want to get some crazy makeup and get a bunch of my friends together and take photos of their zodiac signs and how they corrospond. The Zodiac is very interesting and I love how for some people it actually fits.

3.  Out of Body

Thrift stores are insersting! Everyones stuff in one place; something someone doesn't want could be an essential for another. When you look at something you can read a story that the objects tells. I want to find three different camera's and see who the person who use to have it would be like and take pictures in what there life is or would be.

As I complete these projects I'll post them.

One day just looking at skis I saw these amazing Line Shadow 2011 twin tips. I have the Line Shadows from 2006 and they're good skis but the art on the 2011 edition is outstanding. The graphic designers name is Hanna Boone, She is a graphic designer from Seattle and is doing pretty well.

David Choe

If you aren't born in a certain country but you still feel connected to it because of you're background can you say, "oh yes, I'm half french" even when you have only been there a few times?

Ben Tour

Love his work it is very inspirational. At Park Royal Shopping Center in the recently closed NorthHill there was a Ben Tour original as the cash register desk. Too bad that's gone... but the Ayden Gallery has some pieces!

Nanami Cowdroy

An edgy twist to traditional Japanese art. Nanami Cowrdoy's art reflexs her background of being Australian with a Japanese-European background. Beautiful ink work!

The Weekenders

The Weekenders are an up and coming Vancouver band who have fun songs that embody the beautiful city they're from. They are fairly new and they are a combination of Jordan Grant a talented singer song writer, the boys from Man Chat: Keillor MacLeod,Graham Russell, and Mikhail Din, and to top it all off Sally Arang who brings it all together with the glockenspiel. They recently opened for Said the Whale at Cambrian Hall. The Weekenders are a self-proclaimed acoustic indie folk band. If you haven't heard of them yet you should look into it because these kids are going to make it big. If you live in the lower mainland, on Friday November 5th at 4pm at the Vancouver School Board the Weekenders are playing for free for the Kids For Climate Action-Youth Rally.

Ayden Gallery

The Ayden Gallery is an awesome contemporary gallery located on 88 West Pender street on the second floor of tinseltown. They are currently showing an exzibit called "Robots and Monsters" from October 22nd to November 14th 2010. There is a wide range of artists in this show encluding my personal favorite, Mandy Tsung. Enterance to the gallery is free which is an upside if you go frequently. If you haven't seen it you are definatly missing out. Check it out!

Rodney Graham is a versatile conceptual artist. He continually exceeds in photography, installations, and films. The world knows of the Vancouver artist’s greatness with shows ranging from Barcelona, Norway, and New York.  Many people may recognize his work from the upside down trees such as “Napoleon Tree”.
